Brock Cheney is a Utah native, and expert on the foodways of the Mormon pioneers. He earned an M.A. from Utah State in folklore and local history, and worked at historic sites in Utah and Colorado. He has recreated food history across the west, hunting buffalo in Nebraska with a black powder rifle, canoeing in to mountain man rendezvous on the Weber River, and baking dutch oven bread and biscuits at Fort Bridger. His book, Plain But Wholesome, documents more than a hundred pioneer recipes found in the diaries of early settlers and westward pioneers. Brock will discuss the foodways of Scandinavian settlers in the Sanpete Valley.
