About this Course
The Certified Nursing Assistant class or CNA for short is a class designed to teach and train students to be a nursing assistant.
This class will prepare students for their state licensure exam which measures your nursing skills, knowledge and judgment. Your curriculum will teach you how to care for patients in a variety of ways.
Our book is divided into 6 units. Unit 1 is Introduction to healthcare. In this chapter you will learn about the healthcare system, the nursing assistant’s job, professionalism, communication skills, whose we care for, and the patient’s environment.
Unit 2 is called The Human Body in Health and Disease. In this unit we will cover the basic structure and function of the body, common disorders, and rehabilitation care.
Unit 3 is called Long-Term Care. In this unit we will learn an overview of Long-Term Care, long-term care residence, and caring with people who have Dementia.
Unit 4 is called Safety. In this unit we will cover infection control, workplace safety, patient and resident safety, and emergency and first aid care.
Unit 5 is Basic Patient and Resident Care. In this unit we will learn how to assist with transferring and repositioning a patient. We will also learn how to assist with exercise, bedmaking, measuring and recording vital signs, heights, and weight, assisting with hygiene, preventing pressure ulcers, assisting with wound care, assisting with grooming, nutrition help, assisting with urinary and bowel elimination, and how to make patients comfortable.
Unit 6 is Special Care Concerns. In unit 6 we will discuss how to care for people who are dying, caring with people who have developmental disabilities, caring for people with cancer, caring with people who have HIV/AIDS, caring for people who are having surgery, and caring for people in the home environment.

During the course you will need to:
- Check your calendar often by clicking on the calendar icon at the top of the page. Assignments and assessments are listed on the calendar.
- You will have a range of days during which an assignment or assessment can be submitted. The calendar shows you the first day in that range of days.
- You will need to go to that specific assignment or assessment to find out when the last day to submit will be. Assignments are typically due each Friday.
