ADA - Americans with Disabilities Act

Section 504 of the Rehabilitation Act of 1973 and Title II of the Americans with Disabilities Act of 1990 and the ADA Amendments Act of 2008 prohibit discrimination on the bases of disability. Updates to the ADA in the 2008 ADA Amendentments Act emphasize that the definition of disability is to be interpreted broadly. The ADAAA expands the interpretation of the definition of disabilities making it much easier for individuals seeking the law's protection to demonstrate that they meet the definition of disability.

Section 504 provides: "No otherwise qualified individual with a disability in the United States . . . shall, solely by reason of her or his disability, be excluded from the participation in, be denied the benefits of, or be subjected to discrimination under any program or activity. . . ."

As with the Civil Rights Act and Title IX, "any program" includes all of the activities that TCC conducts, such as teaching and learning, employment, training, student programs, and access to instructional resources.
