FINAL Individual Project Presentation Guidelines

Chose an individual Artist (choreographer, dancer, etc.) OR notable dance company of your choice.  Chose an artist or dance company we have not talked about in class that has interested you in some way.  Please ask me If you are unsure of an artist or what company to chose.   

There are 2 parts to the project:

----PART 1----

The written report  (100 pts total)

  • Papers should be typed in MLA format, double-spaced, 12pt font (Times New Roman) (10pts)
  • 2-3 pages in length.  (5pts)
  • A "Works Cited" sheet in MLA format is needed and will be the last page of you paper, only 2 can come from the internet.  (10pts)
  • Guidelines to writing your paper should be similar to your presentation (15 pts each)

Introduction (who, what, when, where, time, important dates, etc.) 

Describe (create an image for the reader of who artist or company was and became) 

Analyze (explain, feelings, ideas)

Interpret (what do you think the meaning and/or affect on today's dance is?)

Judge (was the artist successful in communicating his point of view, why? or why not? What was interesting? use your own opinion on the artist or company) 

 ----PART 2----

The presentation of the project –  (50 pts total)

  • Presentations should include at least one visual aid: video, DVD or live demonstrations. (10pts)
  • The presentation must be audible, and presented rather than entirely read. (15 pts)

The presentation guidelines

  • Describe your video, DVD or demonstration  (5 pts will be given for a good visual example of the artists’ work)
  • List your sources or where you found your information  (5 pts)
  • Here is a list or rough outline of what you can include in your presentation:   (10pts)

Important dates in the life of this artist
A brief statement as to their personality or working styles
Major creative force or process used
Political / Social values and their historical connection
Major influences in their dance training, or artists with whom they have studied.
The companies in which the artists have performed or place in which the company has performed (if choosing a company)
Signature works
Affect on today’s dance scene
Something I found interesting or informative or a quote I want to remember.

IF YOU ARE PRESENTING A POWERPOINT.  TIME LIMIT FOR PRESENTATION IS A MAXIMUM OF 6 MINUTES.

Email me the PowerPoint 1-2 days BEFORE you present in class. Include the day of when you are going to present so that I have the PPT ready for you on that day. If you are creating a google PPT, share the PPT with me @ pjhopes@gmail.com. This way we can avoid any technical difficulties.  Make sure to have a back-up plan in case your PPT doesn't work.
