Sagan makes much of the golden record attached to the side of the Voyager spacecraft. This is understandable since he and his friends had such a large part in putting it together; in fact, they authored a book called "Murmurs of Earth" about the golden record.

Learn more about the record and the book at the following sites, then answer the questions which follow.

Examine the NASA site carefully, go into the subpages, do the flash page if you can.

What are the chances that extra-terrestrials will find the golden record?

If they do find it, will they be able to figure it out?

What would you have put on the record if you had been in charge of making it? What would represent Earth the best? Do you want an objective picture of humans or a best-foot-forward view?

(For a fun movie related to this topic, watch Star Trek:The Motion Picture Links to an external site. (1979).)
