Discussion 1

Objective: This assignment is designed to evaluate your understanding of culture, ethnicity,and race. 

Step 1.  Read page 19 (Opposing Perspectives) in Chapter 1 of Invitation to the Lifespan 3rd ed.  Answer the following questions in at least 5 sentences total. (10 points)

1. What is race?  2.  How is race different from culture and ethnicity?  3.  Is race always a destructive social construction?  Explain.  4.  Can having a racial identity be positive?  Explain.  5.  How can the subject of race be related to "difference-equals-deficit error?" Explain.
