Catalog Description:  This course covers the practical theory of commercial structures and the construction process methods and materials used.

Course Description

Content:  This course will include: pre-construction activities; regulatory constraints and standards; properties of materials; building site assessment, erosion control, storm water management and earth work; soil types and classifications; foundations designs, shallow and deep foundations; concrete types and properties, design, testing and uses; wood frame construction; structural steel construction; roofing (low slope roofs).

Performance will be assessed by one or more of the following indicators:
1. Attendance (25-45%) %
2. Exams/quizzes - written or oral (25-45%) %
3. Final (25-45%) %

Course Objectives

Justification:
Teaching the practical theory of the materials and methods of the commercial construction industry will provide students with a thorough understanding of the overall process, and is essential for students learning about the construction industry.
